The Delft University of Technology offers a unique interdisciplinary joint-degree Master programme in technical medicine together with Leiden University, Erasmus University Rotterdam and their academic medical centers.
The programme in technical medicine is a multidisciplinary programme which links science and technology with clinical practice and its professional medical procedures. It combines a thorough understanding of the functioning of the human body and the influence of disease processes with an equally comprehensive understanding of medical technology and professional medical procedures.
The MSc-program Technical Medicine is in principle meant for students with a BSc degree from a Dutch university in clinical technology (Klinische Technologie/Technische Geneeskunde). There are possibilities to do a bridging programme for Dutch-speaking students with limited deficiencies.

In deze master ontwikkel je je via coschappen van een starter tot een beginnend arts. Je medische kennis, vaardigheden en professioneel gedrag demonstreer je in de praktijk.

Tijdens de masteropleiding Geneeskunde werk je een groot deel van je opleiding in en buiten het ziekenhuis en word je opgeleid tot basisarts.

De master bereidt je verder voor op het uitoefenen van het beroep arts.
De master geneeskunde is alleen toegankelijk voor studenten die hun bachelor geneeskunde gevolgd hebben aan de Universiteit Utrecht.

In de eerste twee jaar van de master volg je coschappen, waaronder gynaecologie, kindergeneeskunde, neurologie, psychiatrie, oogheelkunde, huisartsgeneeskunde, sociale geneeskunde en dermatologie.
Er wordt nu meer zelfstandigheid van je verwacht en de begeleiding neemt af. Verder verdiep je je kennis van het wetenschappelijk onderzoek.

Het laatste jaar van de master is een schakeljaar; het vormt een brug naar de specialistenopleidingen zoals interne geneeskunde, chirurgie of keel-, neus- en oorheelkunde. Dit jaar bestaat onder andere uit een wetenschappelijke stage en coassistentschap naar keuze. De vakgebieden van de stages kun je grotendeels zelf bepalen.

De master Geneeskunde leidt studenten op tot arts. Na thematisch onderwijs, bekend van de bachelor, start je met je co-schappen. Een opwindende tijd waarin je nieuwe kennis opdoet en direct toepast.
In het eerste jaar van de master komen thema's als 'Methoden van onderzoek' en 'De patiënt' aan bod. Het tweede jaar start je met de co-schappen. Tijdens deze 'klinische fase' loop je enkele weken of maanden stages op specialistische afdelingen van een ziekenhuis en in de huisartsenpraktijk. Het Erasmus MC werkt met ruim 30 aangesloten instellingen. Meestal word je voor de diverse co-schappen in verschillende instellingen geplaatst, waarbij je zelf je voorkeur kan aangeven.
Studeren in het buitenland wordt door de Erasmus Universiteit gestimuleerd en ondersteund. Zowel tijdens het eerste als derde jaar van je master zijn er mogelijkheden om in het buitenland onderzoek te doen of co-schappen te lopen. Zo behoort keuzeonderzoek doen in Baltimore (VS) tot de mogelijkheden.

In deze master maak je als co-assistent kennis met de praktijk van de gezondheidszorg. Je werkt onder andere op verschillende afdelingen in ziekenhuizen en andere medische instellingen en je krijgt gaandeweg meer verantwoordelijkheid in het contact met de patiënt. Verder doe je onderzoek en volg je onderwijs. Als co-assistent werk je voornamelijk in Nederland, maar je kunt ook onderdelen in het buitenland volgen. Na het afronden van deze master ben je basisarts. Je kunt je dan verder specialiseren, bijvoorbeeld als chirurg, psychiater of kinderarts. Ook een carrière in het wetenschappelijk onderzoek is mogelijk.

Na de bacheloropleiding geneeskunde kun je doorstromen naar de masteropleiding geneeskunde. De masteropleiding geneeskunde leidt je in drie jaar op tot basisarts.
Je brengt de opgedane kennis uit de bachelor in de praktijk en verdiept je verder in (complexe) zorgvraagstukken. Het grootste deel van de masteropleiding bestaat uit coschappen. Een episode bestaat in de regel uit voorbereidend centraal klinisch onderwijs (CKO), een of enkele coassistentschappen en tenslotte afsluitend centraal klinisch onderwijs. Het laatste deel van de masteropleiding bestaat uit drie maanden seniorcoschap en drie maanden keuzecoschappen. Een vast onderdeel betreft bovendien het zelfstandig uitvoeren van een wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Dit kan aan het eind van de masteropleiding gepland worden of juist voorafgaand aan de coschappen. Ook zijn er mogelijkheden voor een stage in het buitenland. Toelating tot de masteropleiding geneeskunde is mogelijk met het bachelordiploma geneeskunde van de Radboud Universiteit. Als je je basisartsdiploma hebt, kun je kiezen uit ongeveer 30 verschillende vervolgopleidingen. Als je hiervoor wordt aangenomen, heb je een betaalde baan en krijg je tegelijkertijd een opleiding. De duur van de opleiding varieert van drie jaar voor huisarts, tot zes jaar voor bijvoorbeeld gynaecoloog, cardioloog of neuroloog. Een groot deel van de afgestudeerden gaat werken in een specialisatie buiten het ziekenhuis.

The Master’s in Health, Ageing and Society prepares you for an important role in improving the future of our care. The degree combines different perspectives on growing older in good health, public health and health management. You will learn and work together in small groups with students with different study backgrounds and with diverse nationalities. You will gain knowledge about biology of ageing, learn about the implications of ageing on an individual and societal level and you will acquire knowledge about health management of an ageing population. You will also develop academic and personal skills, such as communication, leadership and research. Because of the relatively small scale of the programme, there is much individual guidance, such as mentoring and professional development sessions. Throughout the programme you will collaborate with senior citizens, visit (inter)national potential employers, attend network events, and give presentations for actors in the field. By the end of the master’s, you will combine your gained knowledge and skills in a scientific thesis and internship. Quite some students take the opportunity to do their internship abroad. The master’s Health, Ageing and Society is an intensive one-year fulltime programme. Since 2022-23, it is also possible to follow the programme part-time, where you follow the same curriculum, spread over two years.

Een PA is een gezondheidszorgprofessional die zelfstandig en onder eigen verantwoordelijkheid geneeskundige zorg biedt aan patiënten binnen een medisch specialisme. Dit doet de PA in nauwe samenwerking met onder andere geneeskundig specialisten, arts-assistenten, verpleegkundig specialisten, verpleegkundigen en paramedici binnen de eerste-, anderhalve-, tweede- en derdelijns gezondheidszorg. De PA is werkzaam in onder andere academische en algemene ziekenhuizen, huisartsenpraktijken/posten, revalidatiecentra, gezondheidscentra, ambulancediensten, verpleeg- en verzorgingshuizen, geestelijke gezondheidszorg en expertisecentra.
Een Physician Assistant is een medische zorgprofessional; is hbo-master opgeleid (Msc); is een generalist met brede inzetbaarheid in een deelgebied van de geneeskunde; is opgenomen als een artikel 3 beroep in de Wet BIG; levert doelmatige, kwalitatief goede en toegankelijke geneeskundige zorg.

Met de masteropleiding Health Innovation ga je praktisch bezig met de vernieuwing in zorg en welzijn en werk je aan concrete innovatievraagstukken in de praktijk.
Er zijn veel mogelijkheden voor (digitale) innovaties in de zorg. In deze masteropleiding ga jij die mogelijkheden verkennen en uitwerken. We werken veel met Design Research: een ontwerpgerichte manier van werken. Daarmee ontwerp je niet alleen innovatieve oplossingen, maar richt je ook op de sociale context waarbinnen zo’n toepassing gebruikt moet worden. During the research specialisation of Biomedical Sciences you will focus on becoming an independent researcher in the field of biomedical sciences. All students follow the common part of MSc Biomedical Sciences which consists of a 20-week research traineeship, a number of thematic (Frontiers of Science) courses, a course on how to write a research proposal, a course on clinical research in practice and a course on scientific conduct. In the second year of the research specialisation you will take a course in Laboratory Animal Science, write a scientific review, and conduct a second major research project of about 28 weeks for which you first will write a research proposal. The research internships in the first and second year can be performed either at Leiden University Medical Center or elsewhere in the Netherlands or abroad. In addition, students will complete the unique module Career orientation which includes assignments reflecting on skills, knowledge and preferences. This specialisation offers research-orientated education in drug research hosted by the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR). Some groups focus on the discovery and characterization of new drug targets and safe and effective lead molecules, particularly in the field of cancer. Other groups develop specific drug delivery techniques, and new therapeutic approaches to treat immune-based disorders, e.g. atherosclerosis, metabolic disorders, inflammatory skin diseases. Other areas include metabolomics-driven health monitoring and systems biology, as well as precision medicine approaches to characterize and predict variation in treatment response and to enhance translational drug development strategies. The programme comprises a one-year BPS component, followed by an education component in the second year. As the main education component is taught in Dutch, all applicants must provide proof of proficiency in Dutch language.

In the master's specialisation Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences and Business Studies, you combine high quality research in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences with training in management and entrepreneurship.
The master's specialisation Business Studies bridges science and business by focusing on areas such as technology management, innovation, entrepreneurship, operations and decision making. You will learn about analytical frameworks and skills for managerial decision making. The emphasis of the business specialisation is on the application of these frameworks and skills in the context of R&D-intensive organisations. After completion, you have obtained the necessary knowledge and skills to take on managerial responsibilities in your work.

The master's specialisation Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences and Science Communication & Society focuses on the interaction between science and society.
Increasingly, the general public wants to be and needs to be informed about scientific topics. At the same time, scientists need to show accountability to the general public about their research. In this specialisation you bridge the gap between experts and the public by combining high quality research in bio-pharmaceutical sciences with extensive training in science communication. After completion you have obtained the necessary knowledge and skills to either become science communicator with a strong bio-pharmaceutical science background, or a researcher with a communicating mindset.

The master's specialisation Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences and Industrial Pharmacy trains you in safety and quality control in the production of medicinal products, and prepares you for a career in Quality Assurance and Quality Control in the biotechnological and pharmaceutical industry. For this specialization only a limited number of positions are available. Admission of max. 2 participants occurs after selection only.

The Board of Admissions will judge the candidate's personal skills (e.g. awareness of responsibility, accuracy, communication skills, methodological approach when analyzing complex problems, and motivation) for qualification to the specialisation. Please note admission to this specialisation is only possible after admission to one of the research specialisations of Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences.
